‘Not a Russian anymore’: Hockey coach claims New York Rangers star Panarin doesn’t deserve place on national team

Russian hockey coach Vladimir Plushev has hit out at New York Rangers star Artemi Panarin, saying he doesn’t deserve to be on the national squad at main occasions.

Plushev, who led Russia’s junior groups to 3 world titles, blasted Panarin, who he thinks “doesn’t respect his country.”

Only people who respect and appreciate their home country should be invited to the national team. And what is more important, they should adhere to their principles. I think Panarin’s brain is a bag full of cats. He is not an American yet, but definitely not Russian anymore,” Plushev said.
